In Lignan, a tiny village nestled in the Saint-Barthelemy Valley in Italy's Aosta Valley, an Astronomical Observatory scans the skies every night. Like a bell tower or a lighthouse, its large telescope sets the rhythm for the small mountain community. Each autumn, astrophysicist Paolo Calcidese moves into the observatory as its sole custodian and resident, carrying out scientific research and experimenting with new technologies. But after a technical mishap, he is forced to set aside the stars and his solitude, turning instead to forms of life he had not previously considered: human beings.
