Franco Maresco returns to one of the topics closest to him: Jazz. After ''I am Tony Scott. The Story of How Italy Got Rid of the Greatest Jazz Clarinetist” Maresco returns to speak not only about Jazz, but about the double thread that connects jazz with Italy, or more precisely, with Sicily.

“Joe Plays John” not only describes what John Coltrane was for the music and culture of the previous century through Joe Lovano, one of the greatest contemporary Jazz musicians, but takes us on a trip through time into the Sicily of the beginning of the 19th century, and shows how that Sicily was fundamental to the birth of jazz as we know it today.
